    Prague Case Pavilion

Prague retains a large number of Baroque and Gothic styles of ancient architecture. In 1993, the International Council of Monuments and Sites examined Prague and wrote: “It well demonstrates the development from the Middle Ages to the modern time and can serve as a model of urban development for Central and Eastern Europe.”

Therefore, sustainable urban planning approach is one of the topics the Czech Republic presents in its pavilion. The pavilion will showcase the original historical part of the Czech Republic, combining its 21st century urban design; it is a great mixture of precious historical heritage and fashionable modern architecture.

The theme of modern flood barriers, protecting people and their lives in the city as well as unique world-famous Prague historical architecture and heritage, predominates in the exposition. Flood control in the exposition protects architectural jewels of Prague – replicas of the Charles Bridge representing the Lesser Town and the Old Town, characterized by the Old Town Hall with a fully functional horologe and a restaurant at the Old Town Square. Other important themes of the exposition present Prague as a natural center of the Czech Republic, the city’s most remarkable architectural sights, architectures and prominent personalities of both the past and the present.
Multimedia programs on the screens and interactive presentations (sophisticatedly placed within entire exposition) will provide visitors with comprehensive information about the city as well as its flood control.

The audiovisual programs as well as printed materials about the City of Prague and flood control (translated to Chinese and English) are available to all visitors, along with the possibility to record the interactive tourist guide of Prague to their mobile phones.

The main exhibition theme “Prague, Modern City Protecting Its Heritage” presents the capital city of Prague, through its UBPA winning municipal project of a unique system of flood barriers, as an example captivating a number of other world cities facing the risk of flooding in areas with great historic and economic assets. At the same time the fundamental ideology of this exhibition aims to even further increase the awareness of Prague as an attractive and flourishing city in the heart of Europe, where the great symbiosis of different architectural and artistic styles contribute to its inimitable atmosphere, and thus successfully promote the overall presentation of the Czech Republic at EXPO 2010.
