    Osaka Case Pavilion

Throughout the continued 1400-year history of Osaka, her citizens have taken advantage of the abundant presence of water to develop advanced water transport systems, which brought about Osaka’s prosperity as Japan’s greatest center for trade and commerce. In order to achieve a safe, productive, and comfortable lifestyle, the people of Osaka have had to learn to manage and prevent flood damage, as well as overcome water and air pollution experienced during this country’s economic growth period. Moreover, great efforts have been made to promote the further development of environment-related technology and eco-friendly urban development to bring about “Osaka: An Environmentally-Advanced Water Metropolis.” These experiences and technology possessed by the government and private sectors of Osaka will be displayed to the people of Shanghai, China and to the rest of the world. Along with contributing to a better city environment, the charms of Osaka/Kansai region’s life, cities and industry will be showcased.

Highlight 4: Special Exhibition – Similar to along the river during the Qingming Festival, a masterpiece known to every Chinese, Folding Screen illustrating Osaka During the Toyotomi period, depicts life on Osaka’s waterfront in the late 16th century. Its reproduction using world-class printing technology will be displayed. Replicas of Tensho Naga Oban gold coin, some of the largest gold coins in the world, which were originally minted in the period when the screen was produced, as well as the Golden Shachi-hoko on the roof of Osaka Castle will also be displayed.
