Montreal Case Pavilion
The St-Michel Environmental Complex is one of Montreal’s best examples of sustainable development. Thanks to a rehabilitation plan put forward by Montreal’s municipal government in 1995, what used to be a limestone quarry and landfill site is now 20,000 square meters of family-friendly city park.
This ecological centre is also a recycling sorting plant and a micro-power station sharing space with Cirque du Soleil Headquarters and La TOHU, the City of Circus Arts. It will become the city’s largest green space in 2020.
To help visitors better understand Montreal, the exhibition will focus on three themes: (1) “Montreal, a clean and technical city”, sharing the reconstruction of the landfill site and innovations in waste treatment; (2) “Montreal, a green island”, showcasing scenery of Montreal and landscaping designs; (3) “Montreal, a liberal city rich in culture and creativity”, highlighting innovations in community involvement and cultural creations.
As the largest city in the Quebec region of Canada, Montreal will share with the world its best practice of sustainable development by showcasing the Saint-Michel Environmental Complex.
It is reported that the pavilion will cost Montreal C$ 3.5 million. A 5.75m×3.5m multimedia screen composed of 720 moveable blocks will be set up in the multi-media hall to show the transformation of the landfill site into the complex. The hall can accommodate a maximum of 75 viewers and will show a 5-minute movie, taking visitors on a journey witnessing the transformation of the Saint-Michel Environmental Complex.
Walking out of the multi-media hall, visitors will arrive at an information area for the Saint-Michel Environmental Complex. More detailed information about Montreal’s technology in environment protection and about companies located in the Complex is available here.
