Freiburg Case Pavilion

In 1992, the French military abandoned the military camp on the south end of Freiburg which had been established since World War II. Freiburg bought the area from Germany’s Federal Government and transformed it into a residential and commercial area, which aims at improving people’s life quality and establishing a sustainable city. It has the following features:

1. Develops urban economy through centralizing urban resources and land recycling.

2. Reduces automobile quantity through enhancing bicycle network, exploring new urban railroad and connected public transportation

3. Builds new insulation construction (15 kWh/m2 pa) to reduce carbon dioxide emission

4. Installs solar panels and photovoltaic power generation facilities

5. Provides heat for a remote building using collective thermal power plant through burning sawdust

6. Establishes a city-wide rain water collection system, protects valuable ecological environment and old trees, integrates green land resources for wind power systems.
