Dusseldorf Case Pavilion
Dusseldorf insists in the principle of “breaking through traditions and innovations” in urban planning. It re-planned Rhine River banks and integrates new city concepts: modern, environmental-friendly, prosperous, and habitable. The old industrial ports have transformed into a corner of the modern city. Dusseldorf’s case introduces city management solutions using modern economic methods in order to combine sustainable development with city planning and thus improving quality of life. The city plans to present “boulevard and tunnels along the Rhine” and “media harbor” in multi-media ways, giving visitors a unique impression of the “media city”.
The Media Harbor at the center of the city is the best representation of Dusseldorf’s transformation from industrial city to service-oriented city. Through the change of functions, Dusseldorf’s residents have returned to the Rhine. Today, the architecture surrounding the harbor designed by world-famous architects provide public space for around 5000 residents, focusing on media and service industries.
The Rhine used to be the economic lifeline of Dusseldorf. Through transferring the busy traffic underground, Dusseldorf becomes closer to the Rhine, which is essentially the lifeline of the city.
Presenting the “Media City” through Multi-Media: The Dusseldorf exhibition area is 500 square meters. The two core projects, “boulevard and tunnels along the Rhine” and “media harbor” represent intelligent integrated architecture. The pathways are well-connected and attractive in appearance, creating a multi-layered experience.
Double-Layer Structure: The core projects will be presented on a 500-square-meter, two-storey architecture. The concept of “open city” enables visitors to enter from wherever they want. Clear indication and information and entertainment system is installed in every path. The most important landmark is the bridge crossing the entire exhibition stage, the walking path on the second floor, and the harbor exhibition center with a stage. The exciting tunnel combined with lighting and sound effects can attract great attention. The two-storey structure makes the architectural body visible from any directions and stimulates visitor’s interests.
