    Romania Pavilion

The design concept of the Romania Pavilion evolves around the color and environmental implications of “green,” inspired by the apple, the most popular fruit in Romania and representing a “green city,” healthy life and the concept of sustainable development.

The Romania Pavilion is divided into two parts: a huge green apple and a slice of an apple lying on the ground. The exhibition includes three sections – “Millennium in Retrospect, “Social and urban development promoted by history and nature” and “City life close to nature.” The pavilion will also demonstrate the charm of Romania to visitors from all over the world with traditional dance performances, ethnic costume exhibitions and other activities.

Highlight 1: Review of Classic Romanian Films – During Expo 2010, visitors will be able to view classic Romanian films which had a lasting impression on its people, such as “Stefan cel Mare” (1974) and “Mihai Viteazul” (1970). Sowing these old films is designed to generate a sense of nostalgia and to highlight the rapid development that has occurred in Romania in a relatively short amount of time.

Highlight 2: A “Green Apple” Changing Colors – The exterior of the Romania Pavilion is constructed from glass, while the interior is composed primarily of steel. The designers will illuminate the “green apple” with a multitude of different lights and colors to draw attention during the dark evenings.

Highlight 3: 24-Hour Cultural Performance – The principle element of the five-story “green apple” is an apple with a small bite. The most important floor will function as a 24-hour stage for Romanian cultural performances ranging from classical to modern. Dancers will dress in traditional costumes to showcase the expansive customs of the country.

Highlight 4: A “Slice of Apple” – As part of the “green apple,” the “slice of apple” will showcase the history and scenery of Romanian cities, especially the capital, Bucharest. Additionally, the green slope on top of the slice will function as an important place for visitor activities.
