    Iraq Pavilion

The Iraq Pavilion’s recreation of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon transports visitors into the mythical world of “1001 Arabian Nights,” bringing them a step closer to the country’s ancient history with modern technology. At the pavilion, Iraq will also showcase its ethnic village and modern city lives, how culture and history are conserved while making way for the present and the future. As the country progresses and undergoes rapid development, Iraq shows in its exhibition area, “City of the Future”, a reflection on 1,000 years of cultural heritage and its heartfelt wishes for its people to have a better life.

Highlight 1: Iraq is the origin of ancient Mesopotamian culture and the Babylonian Empire; witness to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World — the Hanging Gardens of Babylon; and the birthplace of the first law code, “The Code of Hammurabi.” At the heart of the exhibition area, children will find to their delight, a familiar scene from “1001 Arabian Nights.” A beautiful queen sits on the carpet and tells stories to the king while a genie eavesdrops from the ceiling, and the movie “Aladdin and the Magic Lamp” is played on the screen.

Highlight 2: Pictures and tapestries depicting Arabian myths and tales adorn the interior walls of the pavilion. There is also a dream city model to showcase Iraq’s wish for tradition to live harmoniously with modernity and the environment. Within three years, it is hoped that this dream city model will be changed into a new city of 0.97 square kilometers, built in Najaf.
