Brunei Pavilion
The 1,000-square-meter Brunei pavilion, which is themed “Now for the Future,” opened to the public on May 8, 2010. In the interior, vertical, revolving patterns hung throughout the pavilion symbolize increased development and the improvement of the lives of Brunei’s citizens. The pavilion features a pathway through the rainforest of Borneo and emphasizes efforts to protect Brunei’s environment and culture. A 4-D theater introduces attendees to Brunei using recreated rainwater, wind, sound, and video. Touch screen displays also allow visitors to trace the history of Brunei from its founding until 2035.
The pavilion presents Bruneian cuisine and local food brands throughout the Expo. The Brunei Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade hired Royal Brunei Catering (RBC), the largest catering firm in the country, to create a monthly rotating list of local foods, which are halal certified, to pavilion visitors. Local drinks offered include teh tarik mixed with “Gula Angau” local sugar and tongkat ali, which consists of boiled long jack root mixed with coffee. Cuisine elements served include Brunei fried noodles, nasi lemak, dim sum, and murtabak. The objective of the food presentation is to introduce visitors to the cuisine and to market Bruneian products, especially from the RBC, abroad.
