With a long coastline and beautiful island scenery, Dominican Republic is a famous Caribbean holiday resort. The pavilion shows the country’s tourism and cultural activities, its economic development, innovation and use of technology. It tries to display the relation between urbanization and the improvement of living standard and to encourage a unique and intelligent tropical lifestyle.

Izmir Case Pavilion

The Izmir exhibition covers about 200 sqm and is divided metaphorically into two areas. The first can be named as the “CULTURAL” area. This area includes staff room of 6,8 sqm furnished with shelves and four small sitting facilities for the staff members around a table, a semi open bar of circa 16 sqm, and meeting area of 17,5 sqm, as well as a small office of 7,4 sqm and open digital display area with three LCD screens. Only the staff room and office area are closed environments covered with walls and opaque glass surface. The whole floor in the “CULTURAL” area is covered with traditional wavy bright white and dark gray patterns in marmoleum. The same pattern can be found along the urban cost line of Izmir.

In the “NATURAL” area. The lowered central area can be reached by steps and involves a 950 x 570 cm transparent 3,8 cm glass surface made out of 60 elements (95 x 95 cm) on the floor. Under that 3,8 cm glass surface, a circa 5 cm space was created which was followed by a satellite image on a 0,5 cm Plexiglas that again is illuminated from below. Between the satellite image and the upper glass surface, illuminated tubes and cylinders are installed which represent the track and the stations of the future GRAND CHANNEL PROJECT. IZSU Grand Channel Project Line is indicated with a blue light tube and the pumping stations and sewage treatment plants are indicated with red discrete light sources. Furthermore, the central area is surrounded like in a Zen garden by local black natural granite plaques.

All materials in the pavilion, including furniture, must be environmentally-friendly materials, or degradable materials which can be used again or degraded.

Palestine Pavilion

The pavilion presents a fantastic City of Olive with a facade featuring Palestine flag and a solemn Arabic gate. In the center erects a huge olive with visual impact. Olive is important for Palestine as olive oil is the country’s major product. Olive branch signifies peace and friendship, and olive green symbolizes harmony, environmental protection and sustainable development.

Highlight 1: Products and Culture – On both sides and the front side inside the pavillion are two multimedia screens and a dozen of embedded lanterns displaying abundant products and distinctive culture of Palestine.

Highlight 2: Olive Oil – Genuine olive oil from Palestine is sold in the showcase area.

Argentina Pavilion

The pavilion is divided into indoor and outdoor parts with the former exhibiting pictures, traditional craft of the past 200 years in a multimedia way and the latter as an open green space for leisure. Argentina has always pursued multiculturalism, sustainable development of cities, protection of historical heritages, technological innovation and environmental conservation. Living conditions of Argentina people are improved together with the development of its cities.

Saudi Arabia Pavilion

The Saudi Arabia Pavilion features a fine centerpiece: a huge hanging boat shaped like a half moon. The “moon boat” is loaded with dreams and friendship. Date palms have been planted on the top deck of the boat, creating a hanging garden, and thus epitomizing the oases in the desert. Visitors will receive a warm welcome in both modern as well as traditional Bedouin tents set among date palm trees.

Highlight 1: Garden with Chinese and Saudi Trees

The first floor of the pavilion is a garden with both Chinese and Saudi trees growing, a symbol of the friendship between the two nations. Saudi Arabia, the homeland of the date palm tree, has reproduced the scene of an oasis in the desert by replanting palm trees on both the rooftop garden and the friendship garden at the ground level. The design is to have the pavilion elevated above the ground and floating between two gardens.

Highlight 2: The Treasure Cinema

Here, visitors will experience one of the highlights of Expo 2010: a” flight over the treasures of Saudi Arabia” experienced using immersion screen technology, multi-projected on a 1,600 square-meter screen—one of the world’ s largest-Guests will be able to experience the magnificent beauty of the Kingdom, and to see many of the country’s natural and cultural treasures.

Highlight 3: Exotic Arabian Flavor

The pavilion features a 2,000-square-meter cultural plaza where traditional cultural activities will take place. Dancers from all over Saudi Arabia will participate in dances and other activities within the plaza on a daily basis. The main entrance and exit of the pavilion form part of the pavilion hall, which features an enormous atrium with walls and fountains with rich Arabic geometrical latticework. Visitors will explore the historical Silk Road route as well as traditional crafts and special collections here.

Hungary Pavilion

The Hungarian Pavilion is decorated with more than 1000 wood rods, and visitors will feel they are having a walk in a forest. These wooden rods not only reflect light, but also rise and fall with changing music rhythms to bring visitors both audio and visual impacts.

A new invention named Gomboc, created by two Hungarian mathematicians, will be displayed in the pavilion. It is the first known homogenous object with one stable and one unstable equilibrium point, similar to the shape of the Chinese roly-poly. The Gomboc is a symbol of the unremitting and creative spirit of the Hungary nation.

Wood rods are musical instruments themselves and can make sweet sounds when tapped. The sounds even change in the morning, afternoon and evening. The National Pavilion Day will be a a chance to showcase a feast of Hungarian culture.

Design of the hemispherical dome roof is inspired by the idea of “Round Heaven and Square Earth” in traditional Chinese culture. Sections of World Center, The Islands, The Coast, The Amazon, and The Andes highlight the geographical features of Ecuador and its unique charm of cultural diversity.

The Republic of Ecuador showcases its ancient heritage and multicultural society to convey the message of harmony at World Expo 2010 Shanghai. The display involves two Ecuadorian cities, Quito and Cuenca, both of which are World Heritage Sites recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), said Washington Hago, commissioner general of Ecuador at Expo 2010.

A huge dinosaur egg, symbolizing the fragile city, is laid in the center of the pavilion, implying that the urban development shall be based on ecological balance. Two dinosaur skeleton models and distinctive wooden tents are set up in the egg.

Highlight 1: Dinosaur Eggs – Models of baby dinosaurs and pictures show information on dinosaur eggs.

Highlight 2: Tent – Visitors may experience life inside the tent which is made of wood without a single nail.

Guinea Pavilion

Guinea Pavilion will showcase its diversified natural environment and ample resources from different perspectives, and explore ways to combine resource exploitation and urban development, in a bid to advance urban development on the basis of environmental protection. The pavilion will convey the country’s ideas and aspirations for urban development while highlighting the special features of Guinea as a West African country.

The Guinea Pavilion adopts the special local gatehouse as the main element, and is divided into several areas. A gigantic stone column creates a heavy and solemn atmosphere, around which there are many sculptures, murals and handicrafts with distinctive folk characteristics. The exterior façade of the pavilion is rich with characteristics of the country’s historical architectures to immerse the visitors in a vivid atmosphere. The pavilion will make use of real objects, pictures and films to display the culture of the four natural zones of Guinea, as well as several large urban projects that tackle problems such as urban economic development, ecological conservation, migration from rural areas to cities as well as poverty issues.
