Concentrating on “New Tibet, Better Life” and taking “Environmental Protection, Folk Cultural Inheritance and Sustainable Development” as the exhibition idea, Tibet Pavilion displays the unique charms of Tibetan culture, Tibetan people’s patriotism, resolution to make progress, and aspiration for well-off life, peace and harmony, through exhibited items like Qinghai-Tibet Railway, Housing Project, multimedia interactive streets and short videos.

With the theme “Heaven in Tibet,” the festival will include performances of traditional songs and dances, as well as exhibitions of intangible Tibetan culture and street shows, said Tashi Dorje, deputy director of the Department of Culture in the Tibet Autonomous Region. Tibetan carvings, medicine, sports, food and other intangible cultural heritage will also be on display.

Breath-taking scenery along the world’s highest train line, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, will await visitors to the Expo pavilion of southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region. Visitors will also find traditional Tibetan souvenirs and get a chance to rest in an authentic Tibetan sitting room, a senior official of the autonomous region said yesterday. Officials have begun assembling the 600-square-meter exhibition, “Heavenly Tibet,” at China’s joint provincial pavilion at the World Expo 2010. Eight 42-inch screens will show scenes along the 1,956-kilometer railway, which opened in July 2006. As visitors sit in a model train, the scenes will swiftly move back, simulating the feel of the real train.
