Henan Pavilion
Henan Pavilion
The pavilion enumerates Henan’s contributions to and impacts on the Chinese civilization, manifests the inspiration and stimulation of historical achievements for future development and reveals the harmonious future of Henan cities. It displays the long historical course of urban development. A movie on the provincial history is played in the theme cinema area, to look to the province’s wonderful future.
The pavilion’s theme is “Heart of the Nation, Origin of Urban Civilization.” The province is at the geological centre of China. It’s also the home to China’s first imperial capital. More than one Chinese dynasties had set their capitals in the land of the province. The capital cities’ planning affected the constructions of many later Chinese cities, said Wang Liqun, a professor from Henan University, at a lecture at Shanghai Library. The philosophies generated in land of the province area also guided the urban planning theories of China.
The province’s historical symbols, such as the Yellow Emperor, the famous traditional Chinese painting of Panorama of Ascending the Upper River During Qingming Festival and murals in the Shaolin Temple, will be screened. Exhibits will include Ding (bronze vessels) and root carving artworks. A painting “Heart of the Nation, Origin of Urban Civilization,” measuring 25 meters to 3.2 meters, will also be displayed. Meanwhile, an interactive display will allow visitors to explore the stories behind their surnames.

Tianjin Pavilion
Tianjin Pavilion
With a Small Villa design, Tianjin will showcase how it turned a poor village into a modern town in the Urban Best Practices Area at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. The 400-square-meter Tianjin Pavilion has five exhibition structures that are intricately designed to share an interdependent relationship with east and west. Visitors can touch on movie screens or enjoy a ball performance through the combination of dynamic and static visual effects in different halls. By visiting exhibitions such as a high-tech hall, people will learn the harmonious development of the eco-friendly Tianjin Binhai New Area.
The Astor Hotel Tianjin is the only hotel in China which has been included in the national cultural relic preservation project, and this old building is a household name in Tianjin. Up till today, the Astor Hotel has preserved many precious historical relics. In 1886, when the hotel opened, the furniture was primarily purchased from England, and the hotel still has objects which are over a hundred years old. Before long, this old building, which occupies a special place in the minds of Tianjin residents, will be replicated in Shanghai. That is to say, the Tianjin Pavilion will take the shape of the Astor Hotel at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
