Mauritania Pavilion

Mauritania Pavilion exhibits the dialogue between two different kinds of cities: the ancient desert cities, regarded as treasure, with traditional lifestyle and the modern city of Nouakchott.

The pavilion reproduces the architectures in the ancient desert city and is divided into three areas: ‘Footprint of the Ancient City’, ‘City Impression’ and ‘Urban Wisdom’.

The ancient civilization is hidden underneath the modern cities. The very touch of it is the start of a journey into an unveiled memory. Looking at the exhibits of this area is like opening an old book and reading about the ancient legends. Here you will learn about Mauritania’s ancient cities and the traditional ways of dwelling, including architectures, environment, mode of production and way of life.

This area is devoted to displaying the urban image of Nouakchott as a modern city. You will get to know the problems arising from the city’s urban development such as population growth, and the corresponding solutions. There is also a special area for exhibiting Sino-Mauritania cooperation on the construction of public facilities.
